Interviews

One week after the examination we will send you a letter telling you whether or not we will be interviewing DD.Interviews are scheduled between 18 January and 29 January 2016.  At that stage, those girls offered interviews will be invited to make an application for fee assistance from the Bursar's office.  No one is asked to complete any such form before the examination.

Did you speak to them?

50% interview ratio seems very high.

I thought the whole point of coming out of the consortium was to have a harder English paper which would reduce the number of interview required as it would identify strong candidates. DG

Sorry over 500 took the test.
It seems 150 to 175 will be invited for interview and around 80 will be offered a place

During one of the open mornings, one of the Deputy Heads, Mrs Wilson, stated that NLCS pulled out of the consortium because the rigid marking scheme for the English did not allow them to identify the more able candidates.

Thanks Nyr, That completely makes sense as all the schools have to mark to the same set of answer so fantastic answers which are way above what a ten year old can normally do would not be able to be rewarded.

Is your dd in Habs now? I can't wait to see how the two exams compare this year compared to last year. DG

My DD sat HBS last Wednesday and NLCS on Thursday. No other independents. She thought HBS was easier than NLCS, for Maths and for English.

That is very interesting thank you. Was it the format of the English paper at NLCS that made it harder or the actual comprehension? DG

She thought the HBS Maths was quite straightforward. She finished the paper in good time and checked for silly mistakes - always one of her weaknesses. In the NLCS paper she ran out of time for both the Maths and English Comprehension - she may have added too much detail to her answers - the other two parts of the NLCS English paper were okay.

Her experience may not be reflective of other girls' experiences. She was drained after HBS and I had to wake her up at 8:30AM for the NLCS test and she has been sick all this week, so was probably coming down with something.
