11plus bond online - has anyone used it?

Post by Animalmad »

Good evening..before I part with money, I just wondered if anyone has used the 11 plus bond online? It looks really good and relatively cheap. Looking for some feedback please. My son is year 5 and we are just starting out.

I think it's good - your child can log on and get on with it themselves. It was useful for my son who's very self-motivated. Less so for my daughter who didn't use it as much.

The one down side is that the questions tend to come up multiple times. Also, both my children said it was a lot easier than the practice books (GL, Letts etc). We didn't have a tutor and only started prep in January Y5 for my son and June Y5 for my daughter.

I'd say it's worth it using for 6 months or so. I think any longer than that and you'd run out of questions if you did it twice a week for 30 mins or so.

I agree with Beck_mum. My daughter used it for 4 months and soon realized that the questions repeat.
Its good for beginning months of preparation but eventually my daughter preferred Letts and other pubs.

We used it too, but mainly for Maths. I found the cloze multiple questions paragraphs a bit disheartening as you had to get them all to earn one point. The reading comprehension texts were too long and my son didn't enjoy them. So, for English and VR we did more CGP. It was good that you could prepare for both CEM and GL style questions, which we needed.

By the end we needed to concentrate more on using an answersheet and I wished I could have printed some like you can do with some CGP tests.
We always sat with our son when he did the questions to give him feedback on how to improve and I think that the answers could have had a better explanation like the CGP and some First Past the Post tests.

The product was very versatile as you could use it on an iPad sitting comfortably on a sofa which my son liked. So, we found it useful but wouldn't use it in isolation.
