A Fail!

Post by PhilKent »

Not the brightest start to a day, tears with breakfast and all that.

Just found out my son has failed with NVR 124, VR 134 and Maths 107. I think that's strong enough for an appeal what does everyone else think?

Also what has everyone else been told the pass mark was? The school says 2x120 and 1x115, but the independent "Choice Advisor" says NVR and VR should be 120 and maths 115. Doesn't make much difference I know, but it would be interesting to get it straight.

cheers,

It's 120, 120, 115 - doesn't matter which paper they get which mark in.

All is very strange - I must be the only person who's school is telling everyone the pass mark is 118, 118, 115! Luckily DD passed

Phil Kent . Have just re read your post your sons scores similar to dd we had 138 verbal 125 non verbal and 107 math! We have been offered grammar school so I assume we got in on head teacher appeal. I would def appeal if you have support from school. This site has a great appeals section which has helped loads of families. It all seems so unfair when you read posts similar to your own scores, but it should mean it is possible if you have academic evidence and support from school. Good luck whatever you decide.

My son had similar scores last year, we appealed and won! He scored 108 in Maths we provided evidence to show high KS1, KS2 & Cat test scores to show that the 108 was a blip and not refelective of his true ability. We also had mitigating circumstances which may or may not have affected him on the day. The further you are from the pass mark the stronger the mitigating circumstances you need but if you have strong evidence of prior attainment that may be all the evidence you need!

Pass marks in Kent are 2*120 and 1*115 (unless you are applying to one of the WK Gram. which like to choose the highest performers only).

Good Luck

Can kent mum please explain what WK gram means, these schools you said accept only top performers and do not comply with the kent pass mark, is Dartford grammer one of those? Thanks
