Variation in standards
Theres an apparent difference between the standard of education in Grammer and Comprehensive schools.
My two part question is:
1) what is (are) the reason behind the good standards in grammer schools
2) what efforts will be required in the comprehensives to achieve similar standards.
One of the common denominators in the Grammers is that very able children attend such schools and this is reflected in the GCSE results.
Therefore if the same group of Grammers school students were to theoretically attend local comprehensives will they achieve similar results?

I see two major problems with some comprehensive schools.
Lack of ability groups and lack of the learning ethos.
Provided there was academic streaming, ensuring that teachers would not have to cope with planning a lesson to cope with abilities 'across the board', and an environment that allowed being academic to be 'cool' then I believe the comprehensive system should work for all abilities.
If you transferred the 'grammar group of students' into a school that did not provide the above then No, I don't think they would achieve the same results.
