Getting into a Bucks Grammar when not in Bucks?
Hi there,
I wonder if anyone has ever heard of a child being accepted for a grammar school in Bucks where the child is not living in Bucks?
I live about 2 miles out of Bucks and know I am not in the official catchment for say Beaconsfield High. But would it be possible to be accepted to any of the grammars in Bucks without living in Bucks.

My 2 went to local grammar whilst living out of county
My 2 daughters went to the local Grammar School whilst we lived in neighbouring Herts.
The secondary school itself was very helpful at the time; the second daughter had to go to appeal, not on ability but because the school would not have the resources required if she were also accepted. This daughter was in fact the only child to pass that year from the primary she attended.
We had not had tutors or anything like that, so had little advice; the appeal seemed incredibly formal (and my husband was in the US so I tackled it alone) The real focus seemed to be whether there was room.
Subsequently I taught at their school for some considerable time, absorbing much more knowledge about the students and the academic and social pressure the system generates. Some students feel they are crammed to get there, and though they have been sccessful, they spend a great deal of time feeling a failure! Some students at least, do get home schooled whilst waiting for a vacancy in the year they need a slot, so even higher up the school the competition remains quite fierce.
PS Obviously we wanted the 2nd daughter to go to the same school as the elder; we could have had a place at an alternative Grammar before the appeal but persisted to rationalise the travelling! I was already travelling to Bucks to my teaching post in a different school, but we had moved from the rural Midlands so my teaching career had not given me insight prior to the children's admission in consecutive academic years.

Hi All.
I'm a newbie on the group and this is my first post
I read this post with great interest, as my son is currently in year 5 and we live in Hounslow, Middlesex.
We are also thinking of applying for Bucks schools, and was wondering how much of a chance we have in getting in? Does anyone have any idea?
He will be sitting the exam in his own school, if we get through, we will be moving to Bucks.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
