Oversubscription criteria - siblings

Post by 2nd time arround »

What do people think about the sibling criteria applying to single sex schools.
I do not agree with it as I feel you can not choose if you have 2 boys/ girls or 1 of each therefore you are at a disadvantage before you even start the minefield of gaining a place at your chosen school.

We could debate whether siblings rules should be used at all versus a purely acedemic rule, but I dont see it as any more unfair in a single gender school, than any other grammar.

If you choose to go down the single-gender school route, then its just the same as having an only-child versus a siblinged-child. i.e. If you already have a child at that school, then you are rated higher, if you dont, then you are lower.

Come on having four boys I deserve at least one little perk

The tough bit will be getting the first in.

I suppose it is fair in that the sibling criterea comes into play at most state schools both primary and secondary for good reason, so why not Grammars, they still have to pass the exam or be comparible academically with their co-hort. However single sex or co-ed shouldn't make a difference.
