Tiffin exam

Post by Louise »

Does anyone know the format for the Tiffin exam this year I know in previous years there have been two papers verbal reasoning and non verbal reasoning, both multiple choice 80 questions in 50 minutes. Will this stay the same for this year. I know both papers are now on one day instead of two days as in previous years. Kingston council refuse to give out any information as to number of questions.

Hi Louise

Sorry, I can't be of any help I'm afraid. I wouldn't hold your breath for a reply from anyone else either as it appears that parents trying for Tiffin, either past or present, are unwilling to pass on information and tips. This could be because the school is so heavily oversubscribed and difficult to get in to that everyone keeps things to themselves, I don't know. I just wish that this section of the site was as informative/supportive as say Bucks.

Good luck-and I'd love someone to prove me wrong and pass on any advice

You should get the Walsh Verbal Reasoning papers (published by Bumblebee) available on this site. These papers are the closest you will get to the Tiffin exam format.

How do tutors tutor for Tiffin if it is such a closely guarded secret? Hoe do they know which qustion types to practise?

Thanks Patricia. Will take your advice and post in the NVR section.

Guest, good point about how tutors prepare children for the Tiffin tests-I've wondered the same thing and have even thought about hiring a tutor simply for the information they may have about the test. Otherwise, I'd much rather DIY.

Are there any parents out there who HAVE engaged a tutor and can therefore pass on any 'insider' knowledge? Or any tutors willing to pass on what they know? Wish we had our own 'Patricia' in the surrey section!

What is type R G and I. Walsh is a tutor who has been tutoring for the Tiffin exam for many years and seems to have quite a good pass record.

Hi Louise

I think Patricia is referring to the different question types as identified by IPS in their 11-plus material. The different question types correspond to different letters-if you look at their material you'll see what Patricia means.

Interesting info re Walsh being Tiffin tutors-thanks for that.
