Extended writing
Hello i'm new here and my DD is taking the test in 3 weeks time! Is the extended writing exercise usually a story or is there a chance it will be something else, i.e. newspaper report, diary etc?
I can't understand how the child can demonstrate their skills unless it is with a story. I think my DD would have trouble getting all the things she knows she has to do into anything other than a story.
Thanks.

I would prepare your children about to take the Medway test to be ready for 'anything' as Belinda rightly says. You don't want to assure them it will probably be a story and then completely throw them off guard if its not!!!
My advice would be:
read and understand the question
formulate a quick plan
write the exercise given (story, letter etc)
leaving 5 mins at the end to go over punctuation, spelling etc.
AND BE NEAT AND JOIN UP!!
