Wolverhampton Girls High pass mark?

Post by Tracy Grice »

Hi Everyone

My daughter is due to sit Girls High entrance exam in November. I understand there is no pass mark as such but does anyone know what sort of level needs to be achieved?. Has anyone had any feedback from past exams taken?.

Don't think they give out that information, though you could try asking the school. The passmark will change slightly from year to year depending on the quality of the cohort. Basically they have 108 places to fill and will rank them in order of pass-mark. So unless the candidates are of particularly poor quality they'll offer places to the first 108 past the post.

Many of the girls from state primaries offered places will be either the only one from their school or one of only two or three from that school. So realistically, a girl probably has to be in the top 10% in her class to get in.

Personally, I would think you need to be aiming for 90%+ in the NFER papers.

Good luck!

Good luck to your daughter. It's a great school - even if a bit impoverished facilities-wise.

Be warned, it's a bit daunting on exam day when you see all those girls going in and realise your daughter has do better than 80% of them. But she just has to keep her head down and focus on the job in hand.

I'm sure daughter will be working hard over the holiday (as I will be with my son!). We found the VR CD sold on this site to be a fairly painless way of doing extra practice.

Congratulations to you and your daughter!

(I think doing the 11+ is a bit like having a baby - you quickly forget the pain!)
