Appeals..
My Son gained 119 in his 11+ so off to appeal now..
The school have told me they have given him a 2 & 3 as a reference..but sent it weeks ago..that really doesnt equate to the how is working and the quality of work he is doing now...bit stuck!
So, when would they have sent it off etc..also, is that close enough to appeal?
He has 8,8,7 for his CATS..

Hi Phil
119 is close enough to appeal, although it will depend on what the other score was.
The closing date for the Head's recommendations to be sumitted was 7th November, so you will need to ask the Head when s/he submitted the recommendations and whether your son's recent progress persuades him or her to adjust the recommmendation now.
It would help us if you could post the actual CATs scores, rather than the "brackets".

Hi Phil
The Head can write on the Appeal summary sheet that, in the light of the child's "recent progress" (the wording is quite important, as is evidence to demonstrate it), the recommendation of 2:3 now seems low.
It is worth asking what data s/he used to compile his recommendation - if most of it did not relate to your DS's performance this term, then there is certainly an opportunity for a revision.
If he returned the recommendations just before the deadline on November 6th, there may be less room for manouevre.

8, 8, 9 look like the "stanines". See Q&As B28:

If 8 refers to verbal reasoning, the score was in the range 119-126. As Sally-Anne says, it would be helpful to know the exact score.
