Trafford Appeal Success?
Does anyone know the success rate of Trafford Appeals?
Dear saletraffordmum
There is a link in the Q&As, A6b, that takes you to the last available DCSF statistics. Unfortunately it's not possible to look up non-qualification appeals specifically, or own-admission authority schools (like foundation schools) in a particular area.
The success rate for Trafford was 23.6%. Just to be clear - this includes all types of appeal for maintained secondary schools.
To put this in context, the average success rate in England as a whole was 35.3% (all types of appeal for maintained secondary schools).
You cannot extrapolate from this and say "my chances of success at a grammar school appeal are 23.6%", but it suggests that Trafford appeal panels tend to be somewhat tougher than the average - though far from being the worst!
The following newspaper article earlier this year discussed the widely different success rates in different areas (but its figures would have included primary school appeals as well):

Hi saletraffordmum,
I have written everything done that i want to say, mainly what I had put in my first submission letter. We have the supoort of our head teacher attending the appeal with us, so hopefully she can provide more up to date academic evidence.
Our daughter was 3 marks away, It would be interesting to know how many have appealed and what the success rate for trafford is.

Hi saletraffordmum,
Thank Goodness that is over, is wasn't quite as daunting as I had expected. The panal seemed quite warm approachable people,( not sure what I was really expecting) they only asked the LEA person re the disturbance in the exam room, which suprisingly did not say the same as the letter which we had previously received from Trafford! They asked the Head teacher whether our daughter would cope well as GS. They did not ask us anything at all.Not sure whether this is a good sign or not!
Should get the decision in the next couple of days, might be able to sleep tonight, we feel we could not do anymore and its out of our hands.
Good Luck for your own appeal

Hi Salemum
Glad your appeal is out of the way - just the waiting now, which is probably worse!!! Did not realise you find out so soon, I thought it would be after all appeals have been heard. Did you read from script? Quite surprised they did not ask questions - you must of covered everything they would of asked.
Good Luck and lets hope mine is straighforward!.

Yes, I did read out from a script, I tried to keep it precise, I did not include a lot of academic evidence as that came from the HT. I tried to say our reasons for the small shortfall in marks. They did not mention about sitting other enterance exams, I did mention older siblings at the school.
Are you close to the mark?
Just a quick note..parking is difficult, give yourself plenty of time.
