hi
my child failed sgs exam by 5 marks, we are being supported by ht the reason we believe she didnt do well in her maths exam as after the exams (trafford do 3 in same morning) we spoke about the usual ie; did you complete paper, did you answer all questions etc, she mentioned she had no spare piece of paper for working out on her maths paper..we queried this with the school who advised that there was a margin on the question booklet for this...our child for whatever reason did not hear this, or maybe misunderstood what was being said, however, she did the exam with all the working out in her head..she got not a bad score however considering.
we contacted the LEA and asked for her paper as proof this is what happened, they said the question booklets are un-named and so this was not possible.
trafford schools do not coach for the 11+ in schools. when doing practise papers with her at home, we had always given her spare paper.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening before where a child mis-hears or doesnt hear an instruction, and how 'mitigating' is this reason.
previous maths scores show good marks in sats etc and her NVR was above average in the 11+
also does anyone have any tips on what to say or questions to ask the lea representative who i believe is always horrible??
