Trafford appeal-failed by 2 marks

Post by hattie bobs »

Hi am new to this so hope I make sense!

Son failed to qualify for Sale Grammar School by only 2 marks- 351 instead of 353. Am appealing and have a very supportive letter from Head and teacher confirming grammar school material etc....Do I need to ask the head to attend the appeal? It is a state school and out of catchment so son not taught VR and NVR and feel very cheeky asking this of the head?

Many thanks - desperate from Manchester

Welcome, hattie bobs.

If the head were willing to accompany and support you, it could strengthen your case.

Some Local Authorities do have a policy of discouraging heads from attending, though.

Hi,, my daughter is in a Trafford school and is not taught VR orNVR that is something you should be practicing outside school. is is not part of the school curriculum.
Good Luck with your appeal.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. As out of area not aware of what goes on in Trafford schools-but thought had heard of some schools doing practice papers? Would that just be the independant sector and not state?

It varies hugely. Some state schools have quite intensive preparation in VR and NVR. Others do nothing at all. Others do a little bit. The preps do a lot starting very early.

Excellent News- our appeal for SGS was successful! Many thanks to the excellent forum! Now have to have very long wait to see if qualify for a place as out of catchment and about 450 children in Trafford area to compete with! Thanks again to the forum - the advice really was invaluable and because of prep advice from forum the appeal itself was not too nerve wrecking after all
