4a AT END OF YR 5

My child will probably achieve level 4a in all disciplines at end of yr 5 - do you think she is GS material?

Ok, your daughter had above 'average' sats grades for her year group which is great news. She should achieve 5s in year 6. However, the 11+ syllabus is not the same as sats so you should not look at these grades as a sole indication of grammar school ability. The area you are in determines what subjects your daughter will have to take in her 11+. What county are you in?

She would sit the Devon 11plus for Colyton - I understand they test English, maths and VR

Mumbojumbo - 4a is very good for the end of year 5 so I would think your daughter is probably GS material. But, as I have said elsewhere on this forum, Sats results are not a completely reliable indicator.

Comparing my eldest two sons at the end of year 5: one was level 5 in everything, the other was 4c (writing), 4b (reading), 4a (maths). In the 11+ the one who was straight 5s passed by about 8 marks, the one who was a mixture of 4s passed by almost 40 marks. There are no guarantees, but your daughter is definitely on the right track. I think you should go for it but please be aware that the schools do not teach VR so any work needed in this area would be down to you. Also the 11+ maths syllabus is different to the sats maths sysllabus and a lot of what is needed to pass the 11+ is not even taught in schools until year 6.
If your child is to have a reasonable chance in the exams you need to think about where these gaps are.
