Well, actually I'm far too cynical to be shocked when one of my year 5 students tells me that she wants to do more maths and doesn't want to do any 11 plus practise tonight.
Why? Because they've been using numeracy hour this week to go through practise papers.
Not completely sure how this fits in with the New Literacy Strategy!
Yes but Tipsy the LA has a policy that schools do not do any additional practice beyond the familiarisation pack. HTs have to sign a piece of paper to say they have followed the guidelines.
Perhaps the pupil was confused. If the school use CAT tests, they are taken through a Verbal Reasoning familarisation process, is it this paper the child has been practising?
These papers are also produced by NFER/GL Assessment.

Believe me: if it was up to me, they'd be allowed to do far more preparation. But the rules say they can't and most of our schools therefore follow that advice.
