Loreto Grammar
Does anyone know how many girls passed the Loreto exam? My daughter passed but is on category 7. We know that 400 took the test. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think I'm going to be any help but at least you know someone has read your post and considered it. 
My daughters didn't do Loreto - we hoped for Alty Girls and would have been happy with Sale as a second choice. Hence I have no info on the workings of Loreto.
What I can offer is the knowledge that a lot of the girls who pass Loreto also pass Alty Girls and some do choose Altrincham in preference to Loreto - there are at least 5 Loreto passers in my daughter's class at Alty Girls, for example. I would have thought that, similarly, those who pass Loreto but live closer to Sale may prefer Sale over Loreto.
I know St Ambrose admits a lot of boys from the lower categories to fill its places. The three boys I know at Ambrose are all non-Catholics.
Have you phoned Loreto and asked them how many passed and based on past years what chance your particular category stands of getting a place?

Thank you for your reply TraffordMum. We did try to get the info from Loreto but I'm sad to say that they have been most unhelpful. Whereas Alty Girls held an info night to let everyone know how many passed and answered queries from parents on the night, all we had from Loreto is somewhat a cold letter saying that although our daughter passed, she is on category 7 and that they wish her luck in whichever school she attends next year.
On their open night, they did say that last year, they only had to go up to category 6 to fill in all the places.
Both Alty Girls and Loreto are good schools and we will be happy with either but I think the chances for our DD to get in on either school are about the same. We'll just cross our fingers and hope for the best!

Where do you live if you are worried about getting into Alty Girls? When my elder daughter started there I was surprised as to how far afield the girls come from. Plus, although the stated number for admissions is 174, they have admitted an extra class of 29 in each of the last three years (taking it up to 203). I admit I didn't attend the head's info meeting just after the results came out so you may have some inside info from that.

Yes, my daughter got into Loreto and is very happy. It is a specialist school for maths and science but more importantly it is a Catholic school and promotes the values and ethos that we would like our daughter to grow up with.
The admissions criteria has changed this year I think and Catholic girls coming from non Catholic primaries are on category 4. Please check Loreto's website to confirm this.
Last year they admitted just 10 girls from category 7. Put the school as first choice in your CAF. Good luck

Last year, we received Alty results earlier than Loreto's. They also hold an open night to answer any questions that parents (of those who passed the exams) might have - there were a lot of questions and it was a very helpful event.
My DS will be taking St Ambrose exams next year but as of yet we have no idea what the exam structure is, will it be like Alty which is based on NFER? Tiddlymum did your DS find St Ambrose exams any easier than Alty? Thanks.
