IPS have created a highly regarded series of practice papers in both ‘Multiple Choice’ and ‘Standard’ formats, and quite uniquely in all these practice questions they assign a question “type” to each question that your child practices on their papers, helping parents to instantly identify areas of weakness during marking. These “types”, ranging from A to Z, can be cross- referenced in this book of method and technique.
The book contains very clearly written explanation of techniques and methods for each type of question that your child is likely to face with most examining boards.
The “types” encompass all the styles of questions written by Nfer Nelson examinations which are currently favoured by LEA’s such as Buckinghamshire and Kent.
It gives a series of logical steps or golden rules to breakdown the question into something that is manageable.
Furthermore it also contains three practice papers with answers so that once the technique is understood the child can immediately practice a series of questions of the same “type” and in our tests the increase in confidence is immediately visible!
One positive note about the practice paper other than “type” referencing, is that these are of 30 minutes in duration which is useful in two ways: for those stepping up to the 50 minute papers, and for those who have become stale doing too many 50 minute papers.
This publication on its own is a great purchase, but when used in conjunction with the Practice Papers published by IPS its benefits are multiplied.
