Re: Help selecting Uni vs degree apprenticeship offer

Thank you both. Your response is very helpful. Don’t exactly know the course structure but below are a few details. - I believe org works with public sector - Yes, the org will pay Uni fees for a B-eng course (Building services, accredited by CIBSE and energy institute) - there is a charter status i...

Re: Unis for aerospace engineering

Thanks scary_mum. DC is interested in Bristol and trying to decide between Southampton/Bath for the next place. Is likely to meet the requirement. We would prefer DC not go to Cambridge or Imperial even if there is a grade boost in September.

Anyone with any experience of Southampton/Bath?

Re: Unis for aerospace engineering

Thanks scary_mum. I believe DC has looked into the MEng course details and prefers ones with industrial placement/year abroad. DC will need to choose this summer and apply by Sept/Oct, I believe. If you don't mind me asking, which uni does your DS go to and how does he find the course and the Uni. I...

Re: GCSE 2020

I am all for allowing the DCs to fail and learn on their own. Last four years we did not do anything and let the DC learn on her own. Not that we are doing anything substantive this year either. However, GCSE is a crucial stage and if they don't score the expected level it will close many doors for ...

Re: University A level preferences

After knowing some experiences I have started thinking if Oxbridge are good options for some DCs, no matter how bright/academically suitable) they are. I think the DCs go away from home for the first time and some may feel home sick. Pastoral care could be an issue as well.

Re: GCSE 2020

Wildwest, are you saying the number of books for each subject or the number of publishers, or both? Neither! Just that, the curriculum for each subject (out of 9 or 10 or 11 GCSEs that the DCs do) is huge. Lots of content to read, understand, remember and recall. Completely agree. This is what I me...

Re: GCSE 2020

Why would you do that?! In my honest opinion, whilst a parent might help a child design a revision timetable, your role should be to ensure they have food/snacks and regular breaks. This is the start of them learning to learn on their own. Otherwise you have to do it at A level and then for their d...
