Re: Help with confusing maths question

Badly worded question! a) doesn’t make it clear if the first day is counted (implies not from the wording. but not clearly) b) doesn’t specify what day of the week it is as that couldnchange the answer (though by making it over 3 weeks I think they are trying to make it not matter: childncould lose ...

Re: Selection review - missing info

well, you could argue that not knowing the panel discussion makes it not clearly seen to be objective I guess, on the grounds that the decisionmaking process is not transparent… so the panel’s decisions aren’t markeable against stated criteria. It’s difficult generally to prove not FCO, and lack of ...

Yes Mad, so please explain, what sorts of things qualify as a “need” in your experience?

Re: Paperwork for appeal - do I have enough evidence?

Whether or not the pupil would be of benefit to the school bears no relevance to the question of whether the prejudice to the pupils of their appeal not being upheld outweighs the prejudice to the school of being told that they must be admitted, when the presenting officer has already successfully ...

Re: Paperwork for appeal - do I have enough evidence?

From what I can tell , oversubscription is not so much about “go on you can squeeze one more in “ (because every parent could try arguing that) It’s more showing why that particular school is extra suited to your child and so having to go elsewhere will prejudice against them. So if your DS is a mus...

Re: Selection review - missing info

The clerks notes aren’t given out routinely, you have to request them: see section D4 in the link below (click and scroll down) please note, I don’t know how quickly they are provided, or how soon your appeal date is. but doesn’t hurt to try and request them. https://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/advice...

Re: Selection review - missing info

Regarding consistency: every individual case is different, and so all the panel can do is try to ensure that the general trend of decisions is consistent. I appreciate it’s a quite closed process: did the clerks notes for the SR reveal anything that suggests the panel decision deviated from the stan...

Re: Selection review - missing info

I am trying to be helpful, but be aware I’m playing devil’s advicate a little: this is not to be negative, but to help you consider what may be a resonable counter-argument for you to make in an appeal. “ 1) Close miss (117) – VR 127, Maths 104, NV 110 “ 117 isn’t VERY close, your child’s verbal sco...

Re: Selection review - missing info

Hi: there are several things going on here: I totally understand why you feel your child underperformed on the day, and sympathies that this did not result in a pass. As you say, the panel need to discuss if the review was FCO. it’s always a bit of a closed box how one judges fairness, and one apprp...

Re: Paperwork for appeal - do I have enough evidence?

I’m not specifically aware of the Bournemouth School appeal requirements, but generally be aware that appeal panels find good mock results of very limited use: this is because there is the potential for them not to be under true exam conditions/another child to have sat them in lieu of the appelant/...
