Re: Summer Born

Oh dear. I’m just catching up having been away a couple of days. I do seem to have opened a can of worms! What is right for one child and family isn’t necessarily right for another. I was interesting in how children who are young for the year have coped. It can also be a disadvantage being old for t...

Summer Born

Just been reading a BBC article about Summer Born children. And the lottery of where you live depends on if you can defer children starting school. Not sure if I think it’s a good idea, but DS was very ready to start school and was born in the last week of August. Which has meant first GCSE result (...

Re: Old University Text Books

I really hope that you find a good home for them. But once a text book is a couple of editions out of date, they are of little or no educational value. My Dad a retired research chemist has a vast collection of text books from the 1950 onwards. My son a 2nd year Biochemist finds them fascinating but...

Re: Weekly/Monthly budget for University

Last year we had an extra duvet cover etc ( His spare set from home) and an extra bath towel, and maybe a couple of hoddies that we would take up with us and do a quick swap, if we went to see him. Think it really helped Going to be interesting to see how they ( 6 of them) cope with getting their wa...

Re: Continued Interest list round 2

Still Waiting ! That was me all of 8 years ago. Back in 2010 I was desperately waiting for the CI list for Parmiters to move. It gets to a stage where the CI list movement or lack of it, is totally ruling your life! It was a slow year and by the start of May we had finally moved up to 7th place. In ...

Re: Merry Christmas

Happy Christmas to everyone

No problems with cats, But I'm currently trying to ignore our very fragile cocker spaniel that is determined to use his tail to remove as many decorations as possible from the tree. He's had major spinal surgery and we've had to teach to walk again!

Re: Pretty towns with universities

I think I must have been influenced by all those glossy brochures back in the day (1985-1988) as my first choice was Durham (rejected) then Exeter then Lancaster. As an Essex girl I was determined not to be near home it seems! After not working nearly hard enough I ended up at Oxford poly - a town ...

Re: How are the "freshers" settling in ?

I'm sure my rent for my 2nd year at Oxford Poly in the Mid 8O's was £22 a week. Sharing a ground floor flat on Windmill Rd Must check with DS about what's been said at Warwick for 2nd year accommodation, Leamington I expect and then the bus in each day. Hoping that from his 12 flat mates he can find...

Re: University Realistic Costs ?

The week before DS left we did a practice fresh food shop at Tesco which will be his local non campus shop. He did really well and spent less than £17 for most of his food for 6 days. Yesterday OH dropped him off and they went shopping for fresh food in Tesco. The queues where worse than Christmas w...

Re: University moving list

Yes. As no one can remember their unique login details for the 100 or more web site we seem to use on a regular basis. It was fine when every one felt secure using the same password for every website. I can probably remember the login details for my email account, bank account and Amazon but need to...
