Re: How to choose a uni?

I didn’t even see DDs PS until after she had submitted it. She was allocated a UCAS mentor at school, who helped her plan her PS, then reviewed and checked it, before it went to the head of sixth form for final approval. They do this every year for over a hundred students. I did a PS once many year...

Re: Doubts over new A-level grading

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-53764313 There is good news and bad news every year from exam results. But perhaps what fuelled the anger this year has been the sense of powerlessness. An impersonal algorithm, over which they have no real control, might have ruined a deeply personal ambition. ...

Re: A levels 2018-2020. long wait 2

DD was downgraded in chemistry, where she has scored A* in every test, mock etc but was awarded an A. We had anticipated this happening so it wasn't a surprise. The school had already decided to appeal before she even picked up her results. She has a place at her first choice university, so at the ...

Re: Doubts over new A-level grading

we had A levels posted out - no idea what form as we were on a family holiday at the time. Grandma was house sitting the cats and I phoned home from a French campsite on a payphone so she could read them out to me. DD is getting her A level results by email but there will be teachers in school if sh...

Re: A levels 2018-2020. long wait 2

DD seems to have been coping OK although it is not great for an only child to spend so much time on her own - thank goodness for technology. She is facetiming closest friends and zooming with potential college/course mates. All uni / SFE paperwork is done and submitted. Apart from a couple of social...

Re: GCSE and A Levels cancelled

They have backtracked on the 'hope to get results out before the end of July' and are now going to give them on the original results days in August: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-52309763" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; this doesn't leave as much time for anyone who n...

Re: GCSE and A Levels cancelled

Ds is unlikely to get his predicted 4A* as he was unwell from November until February. He is now working back at full strength and was certainly on course to achieve his predictions (mocks last week of 2A* and 2A) but unfortunately his school work in the first months of this year probably won't bac...

Re: GCSE and A Levels cancelled

also there might be a realisation that it pays to work consistently through the years rather than relying on cramming to get the grades.
