mnemonic help
My 8 yr old needs to find mnemonics for the following words and we are struggling!! Any help appreciated.Teacher is suggesting we find a word for each of the letters in the given word but cant seem to make it read sensibly then
everyone
everybody
everything
nothing
everyone
everybody
everything
nothing
it would help him break down the compound words into smaller units.
Then has to remember the shape, spelling, look of 5 small words
every
body
thing
one
no
That's how I would tackle it with pupils who have a blank spot on certain spellings.
mnemeonics for such long words ar pretty cumbersome.
Every Vole Eats Red Yams To Help Initiate New Growth
Every Vole Eats Red Yams But Only Dead Yams ...etc.
Native Otters Eat Tasty Honey In New Guinea
Every Vole Eats Red Yams On November Evenings
aha, sorry Wizard re-reading your post is this for a homework rather than to familiarise himself with the spellings??

It is odd homework - the example the teacher gave was cat which is much easier to do mnemonics for than the list she gave the kids!!
Thanks to yoyo I have come up with a few ideas to share with my son tonight - I have changed vole to vampire as not sure he knows what a vole is.But seems like this is homework for the parents not the kids.....

Definately go with yoyo and break down into 5 small words which can then be "stuck" together. Not sure that a Mnemomic would help here, more for lists of words than spelling of words I would have thought.
I can still remember treble cleff that I learned at age 6 Every Good Boy Deserves Fireworks and F A C E - and my DS have learned the same!
