Bond Assessment Papers for English Comprehension...

Wow um - you sound like me with my son. We are doing the same. We have got the new versions of the Bond Comprehension only books and i dont know if they are harder than the 4th / 5th books - but we are going throug them very sloooooowly. We are trying one paper a week - but sometimes skip a week - when there are parties or other fun things to do. I am glad that I am not the only person doing this as I felt a little cruel doing this too.

Re: Bond Assessment Papers for English Comprehension...
Hi TP123 - I'm interested to know what you mean by the Bond 'comprehension only' books. The only one I can find (apart from the 3rd/4th/5th papers) is 'Secrets of Comprehension'.
My DS (Year 5) has worked through the 3rd papers and has just started the 4th, and he finds comprehension hard too, so I'd like some extra materials for him. Trouble is, he gets good marks on these papers because he has no problem with the vocab/grammar questions. But in the real exams he's going to sit, the comprehension will carry far more weight, so I'm a little concerned.
Has anyone found the Bond 'Secrets of Comprehension' useful? Does it contains exercises, or just general advice?
Thanks.

I found it useful as it actually seemed to explain what was required, rather than me having to guess. It has exercises to work through and tips on how to approach different types of questions and how to be sure you answer fully etc. Wish I'd discovered it more than three weeks before the exam!muffinmonster wrote:Has anyone found the Bond 'Secrets of Comprehension' useful? mad?
Re: Bond Assessment Papers for English Comprehension...
I really liked the Key Comprehension series although they do not come with the answers, the teacher's book has to be bought separately. As I didn't buy the answer book we always discussed the passage and the questions and I would accept any answer/opinion as long as it was backed up by evidence from the text.

Bond have started doing books just for Comprehension. Here is a link to the 9 to 10 years book: ***********
(in case the link does not work the ISBN is: ISBN-10: 1408504006 ; ISBN-13: 978-1408504000 )
They also have 10 to 11+ and 11+ to 12+. We are still on the 9 to 10 Even though we have finished the book the marks were so low that I am now unsure on whether I need to make him to it all again or move up to the next level.

Thanks, TP123 - I've found them on Amazon and will give them a try.
Re: Bond Assessment Papers for English Comprehension...
So glad to have read this thread. We are doing the 10 to 11 Bond 4th more book on English. My little one really strugles with the first part - where you have to answer questions about the passage. Sometimess I think its her being lazy, but then sometimes even i wouldnt get the answer they put. She is ok on the remaining questions.
I wondered if its worth stepping backwards to the previous book ?

As the Bond comprehension texts are challenging, I would like to know if somebody tried the comprehension books published by Schofield &Sims.
Are they useful for an 11+ preparation?
Do some tutors coming on this forum use them for their pupils?

Re: Bond Assessment Papers for English Comprehension...
I tried the Schofield & Sims Comprehension books. My son didn't like them . He finds comprehension quite difficult, so I've ended up going back to the Bond Assessment Books - but I've decided to start at the 2nd Papers, and we'll slowly work our way up.
