Children's dictionary

Can anyone recommend a good children's English dictionary - early KS2 onwards. I bought the Oxxxxx primary dictionary but was disappointed with it - the words we look up are either not in there, or very poorly explained.

hi,

We have got children's illustrated dictionary from Paragon. It has got pictures for some of words which is good. it should the job for primary school.

Try the O....d School Dictionary - one step up from the primary.

I agree that the next one up from the one you think you need usually works. By the time they're in secondary school, a 'grown-up' dictionary like the Oxford Concise is probably most useful.

We picked up a lovely picture dictionary at the second hand bookshop (years ago) by R. Ridout. Served as a good introduction.

The Oxford dictionary is good but our favourite is the Chambers Family Dictionary. I have 4DC at KS2 who use it.
