Hi,
I have 3 DS aged between 7 and 10.

I try to read to them every night.

We've almost exhausted the list of books by Roald Dahl - which they pretty much enjoyed.

I'm looking for recommendations on other books that I can read to them

Thanks

I also thoroughly enjoy 'reading-aloud' R Dahl's books. He is just so entertaining: even now, my older dcs still come in to listen (when I read aloud to my youngest) and they've heard it all before. Personally, I find it hard replacing Dahl (plenty of good 'read-alones' out there but it's not the same with 'read-alouds'). However, my dcs also enjoyed listening to these:

Lemony Snicket's - the Unfortunate Events Series
The Hobbit
Harry Potter Series

Some suggestions for you - my ds is 10
The Indian in the Cupboard -trilogy L. Reid Banks
Fantastic Stories - Terry Jones
Odysseus, greatest hero of them all and Odysseus II journey through **** by Tony Robinson and Richard Curtis
Harry Potter of course and The Hobbit

Most boys that age esp the younger ones seem to like the Gladiator Boy series and the Astrosaurs series, Ds read a few Charlie Bone books but I don't think they are that brilliant (like HP but not as good) also Percy Jackson.

Don't worry the ** is nothing sinister! It is H* e* l* l Hope that works. It is a funny re working of the greek myths told in an easy to read style. Boys seem to enjoy myths and legends and it is a good base for later reading and literacy work. Try the library if these are out of print.

Michael Rosen poems..they are fantastic, especially the Eddie poems.

Also Hairy Tales and Nursery Crimes. wonderful twisting of language..( The three little wigs and the silly goats gruff who meet the horrible roll, cheese roll under the fridge...)
