Reluctant Writer

This is my first posting so hopefully it is in the right place. My son is 8 (yr 4) and we are in Cheshire so no 11+ but he will hopefully be sitting the entrance exams for independent schools.

When it comes to writing he has fantastic ideas and does a great story plan but taking the next step of writing the story isn't happening. In school he will write only a few sentences over 3 English lessons so we never get the story.

Does anyone have any ideas to encourage him to write the story - he has low self esteem and always thinks his plan is no good (he gets lots of praise from home and teachers). The lack of writing also cuts across to other subjects where sentence writing is required (History and RE).

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Many thanks for the redirection - I only discovered this site this week so have not trawled through all the forums yet - some ideas to try.

Thanks George
