English phobia!!
Hi all, I am a little perplexed regarding my DS lack of interest in English. He doesn't enjoy reading at all and as a result of this his comprehension skills are quite weak, ( he totally misses the point, when answering questions). His writing skills are better, but he is quite lazy i.e the story starts well and then he just gets bored and rushes the rest.
He enjoys Maths and is always keen to do that, than work on his English.
Any ideas how I can help him?
I am well aware that reading is very important and a vital part of success in an Entrance exam but is he doomed because he does not do any reading?

My DD enjoys maths and writing and has always achieved very good results in these areas. However she is not a keen reader. Consequently her results in reading have historically been lower. This is quite unusual. To compensate, we always have a talking book in the car. She loves Malorie Blackman, Gillian Cross and Michael Murpurgo. I must admit though, her real favourite is Enid Blyton. We choose the talking books from the library and frequently order in any that she would like to hear. As we listen to them together it encourages discussion.
