Abbreviations and punctation
Hi
I believed that the abbreviation Mr should not have a dot; my daughter's English teacher marks this incorrect and adds a dot.
Punctuation is worth about 10 marks in the 11+ so I would like to know.
Any advice appreciated.

Hi Moving,
Looking at my Usborne Improve your Punctuation book.
Abbreviations use a full stop at the end to indicate letters are missing so use Mon. for Monday. But words that are shortened to their first and last letters such as Mister to Mr do not use a full stop.
Both U.N. and UN are correct, UNSECO would not normally have stops as you read it out.
I have learnt something new today.
