KS2 keywords

Post by Villagedad »

Hi

Does anyone know if there are such a thing as KS2 keywords, e.g. to learn for reading..?

My DS is in Year 2 and knows all his KS1 keywords (ie words for years 1&2, and was doing them in reception) but I was wondering if schools publish word lists to learn for KS2 ie year 3 upwards..?

Many thanks

My understanding of Key words is that they are the 100 most frequently used words in the English language.
Once these are learnt, they then go onto the rest. Through the years the length of the words usually get longer, and are ones which are less frequently used.
DS in yr6 has recently been given a list of scientific words to learn for spelling, such as microscope, thermometer, photosynthesis etc.

I remember doing a reading test when I was in the equivalent of Year 6, and I got one word wrong (no-one else got it right either), and that was "sepulchre". I knew what it meant, but stumbled over the pronunciation.

I was just wondering whether it was on the current list for Year 6s :D

The updated/new document (Support for Spelling) is available here:

http://nationalstrategies.standards.dcs ... ode/183127

You can then click to download the pdf version.

It covers years 2-6.

Hope it helps.
