How realistic is it that...?

Does a Maidenhead child really have any chance of getting into Kenricks - is it about performance or catchment? Just starting to think about options for my daughter and woudl really appreciate some advice about good grammer schools for her in the Berks, Bucks area.

Also, what practise tests could I start doing with her on-line or at home...? For Kendricks it seems they focus on VR and NVR...?

Thanks in advance :?:

Hi khalsi and welcome to the forum :D .

A Maidenhead girl has just as much chance as anyone else of getting into Kendrick, the school's entrance criteria are about performance, there is no catchment area. I understand from an earlier post that there are eight girls from Maidenhead in the current year 7.

My best advice would be for you to look back through older posts in the Berkshire section and to look at those that relate to Kendrick or Reading boys' school (since threads often contain information about both of these schools). You can also do a search of the forum for 'Kendrick'. I know that there is plenty of advice available about Kendrick because I posted some of it!

I am sure that you will find this website helpful and you can also purchase VR and NVR materials from here once you have identified the ones that you need.

Not sure whether you have also posted in the Bucks section but I would recommend that you do so to find out more about Bucks schools :) .

Wishing you well with your research :) .

Hi Khalsi,

Your nearest grammar (I would expect) would be Burnham... don't know the school myself but ask on the Bucks forum.

There are currently 4 grammars in Slough - Langley, Herschel, St Bernards and Slough Grammar. I believe that Kendrick is deemed the most academic in Berks tho'.
There is a possibility that St Bernards may be merged with ST Josephs (Catholic) so could become non selective at that time.
Not sure on travel arrangements from Madenhead but I think there is a train to Slough and many pupils walk from there to Slough Grammar. Langley would be a bus ride. I am sure there would be others that have more of an indication of travel from Maidenhead.
It could be worth having a look at the Slough Grammars... for info on the exams see this link....
