last minute advice for Reading boys

last minute advice for Reading boys
Just looking for last minute advice from any experienced parents. We had eased off with DS for last three weeks just doing minimum to tick on. The plan has always been to do a three hour session this weekend as per Reading School. Any advice what practice exams to do KS2 2008, NFER (Letts) or the more difficult Bond Paper. He has done all these paper in the past randomly. DS is for it, the big practice, but we don't want to destroy his confidence. Any advice appreciated. Many thanks, Sammi

I would do fun stuff 
pick work he enjoys 
an old paper or just parts of a paper that he will whizz through and get a high score. Something NFER style multiple choice if possible, talk about exam technique and focus. Lots of praise for all the hard work completed to date, do your best on the day, keep going, if it is hard then everybody will be finding it hard so just do your best. That was my speech three years ago, just rehearsing for next year. 
It is all about having a good day, on the day.

Agree stick with NFER, and keep his confidence up. It's what you do on the day that counts, and don't let other boys in room put you off.
I know last year when my son took it he said that a lot of boys finished the exam and then just sat back and made faces at each other or just looked around and out the windows. He was surprised that they didn't check their papers.

Hi I have a few of my tutees sitting the exam next week. Don't introduce anything new or too difficult, stick to the NFER papers and make sure he comes out of his mock 'smiling and confident'. Ask him if there is anything that he wants to go through with you over the next week - perhaps look at sections he got wrong and make sure he can now do them. A week of good sleep, plenty of healthy food and he can but do his best.
