What does "deemed eligible" mean?

Our letter from Slough Grammar School reads "we are delighted to tell you that your son has been deemed eligible for a place at this School for September 2011".

What does this mean? Does it mean

(i) we are so impressed with your son's score of 124 that we have reserved a place for him already and desperately want you to accept it rather than take him to another school,

or

(ii) Congratulations. your son didn't get lower than 111 so he hasn't dropped out of contention yet and if you're lucky we might have good news for you in March

?

I presume, given cut-off scores for previous years it's slightly academic, ahem. But paranoid parents want to know.

Looking at the historical data, it appears that 112s normally get a place and also some 111s. So a 124 would get a place if they put it first on the CAF (or second and weren't eligible for the first place school)

It means that you have achieved the qualifying score to be considered for a place at the school.
That being said, 124 is a great score and historically should see a first round offer. even with the changes to the admission criteria.
