Do you know if any of the consortium will allow you to apply for a place in year 8 or above if your child did not meet the required pass mark for the 11+ (for year 7 entry)?

Slough Mum, the admissions criteria are as follows:-

Langley

7. Admissions after the initial year of entry will depend upon the availability of a place, and
suitability of a pupil for a grammar school education as determined by admission tests.
This includes admission to the Sixth Form where the relevant admission test will be
performance in GCSE examinations or equivalent.

Herschel

6. No child will be admitted to the school, other than at the start of Year 7, unless there are available places and:

(i) they are transferring from another grammar school, or

(ii) they have not already taken the 11+ test, reside in the area (as defined by 10 below) and are successful in the school's entrance examination.

Any pupil who has taken the 11+ test will not be permitted to re-sit an entrance examination for Herschel Grammar School whilst at statutory school age.

St Bernard's

No pupils will be admitted to the school, other than at the start of Year 7, unless
there are available places and:
(i) they are transferring from another grammar school, or
(ii) they have not already taken the 11+ test, or
(iii) they are successful in the school’s entrance examination relevant to
their year of entry.
Any pupil who has taken the 11+ test will not be permitted to re-sit the entrance
examination for St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School whilst at statutory school
age.

Slough GS
8. Admissions after the initial year of entry will depend upon the availability of a place and suitability of the pupil for
a grammar school education as determined by admission tests. This includes admission to the Sixth Form where
the relevant admission test will be performance in GCSE examination or NARIC verified equivalent.

I would contact either Langley or Slough in the first instance regarding a possible retest as neither seems to exclude this the way St Bernard's and Herschel do.

If either Langley or Slough have no problem with a test for another year of entry then I would contact either of the other two if these were my preferred schools), and if refused would appeal - there has been some discussion about this on the appeals thread, and if the school refuses to test then an appeals panel should assume that the an appellant is of the required standard
