So how is everyone feeling?

I can't wait for the school holidays as the end of term homework/evening performances/trips etc mean we have just managed to do no practice for the last couple of weeks. It's open afternoon next week so I am hoping to use that as a relaunch now that there are only 13 weeks till the exam.

We are in go slow, stopped mode.

I'm sure we will pick up the pace over the summer. 8)

DS1 has offered to do some tutoring over the summer during the day so it's not me and DD in the evenings, well that's the latest plan.

I know from xmas we can't risk a long break or the scores deteriorate, but can recover after a couple of weeks effort. So I guess it's a case of keeping on the ball, not too much nor to little.

Hi Reading Mum,
If you're going to the Kendrick open evening this afternoon, could you ask for me if the allocation of places is based on rank + distance or for all catchment children first and then non- catchment?
Would all the catchment and non- catchment children on a certain rank get places before next lower rank or is it all catchment children in rank order and then non-catchment children in rank order for any seats that are left over (very unlikely).
Not sure if there is any point in applying for a merit non-catchment place.
Thanks

According to the website (as I read it) they will rank the qualifying DD within designated area. They will only go outside the designated area if there are no qualifying DCs (i.e. with score >= 109.0) left within DA. My gut feel would be that there will be at least 96 girls who qualify within an approximate 15 mile radius of school - I would besurprised if they need to extend beyond the DA. Just my personal opinion as there is no data to base this on with it being the first year of having a DA

"Places will be offered to applicants who are ranked high enough according to the entrance test scores and who reside within the designated area. Only if there are further places available will applicants who live outside the designated area be considered."

My guesstimate, going by what I know of y10, is that the DA would exclude 5-10% of the current girls. So with a pass mark of 109, and this year's offers going down to 114 or 115, I can't imagine that there aren't at least 10 DA girls scoring 110-113. Like RM, I'd be surprised if they had to go outside the DA.

Anyway, ReadingMum, hope you are having an interesting time tonight :-) If you noticed a tall girl with short hair, black glasses and a blue vice house captain badge, that was my dd1 :-)

My understanding of the rules was confirmed on the night. They were also emphasising not to apply if your DD's length of journey would leave her unable to join in after school activities

Reading School has a smaller DA and as far I know have never offered outside of it for day boys. So it seems very unlikely that Kendrick will but being first year of a new system who knows?

DD went to open evening, speeches to long and too many, came away happy about the school and motivated to give the exams her best shot. :)

Well we have now moved from the 'preparation' phase to the 1st 'waiting' phase. This may be followed by a further 4 months of slightly more educated 'waiting' but to be honest I don't think so.

We have done as much prep as we were comfortable with doing but I feel it won't have been enough. I tried to strike a level which didn't pile on the pressure but I suspect that a bit of pressure might have been required to get in.

Hey ho - I still think we did the right amount for us.

Good luck to everyone

Looking forward to a VR/NVR free weekend, first one in seven years?

No I haven't been preparing DD for seven years it includes DS1 and DS2, and ok we did have breaks but it feels like I've been doing VR/NVR forever.

What shall I do with the extra time, get a real life?
