Pass Mark for 11+ how to work it out

Hi, wonder if anyone can explain how pass marks are worked out; son's getting between 80% -90% in his practice, how do you translate/convert that to the numerical marks mentioned in the actual previous test results ?

Selective schools are first past the post,so your son has to beat the rest of the competition -many others wwill be scoring at this level.
80% to 90% sounds good-focus on the errors and improve the scores

Thanks Ironmike, I'm trying, scarymum, we've applied for the slough schools; 69% been mentioned ... any opinions welcomed
