Kendrick vs SWBGS

Post by berks_mum »

Kendrick Grammar ,Reading
Sir William Borlase's Grammar school, Marlow

We are finding it very hard to decide between the two schools as we are approaching the CAF deadline. Anyone made this decision before?

Kendrick - higher in league tables, single sex
Borlase - not as high as Kendrick but different intake method, mixed school

DD is sensitive and will flower better in a relaxed/laid back environment where she has plenty of freedom. She is responsible and self motivated. Highly structured and strict discipline environment may not suit her. Apart from swimming not much into sports yet but this may change. Sciences(especially space related), Medicine, Programming (scripting really), Music, painting, Ballet, textiles, poetry, singing(choir), drama and jewellery design are her current interests.

Hi Berks_Mum,

IMO, Kendrick is much better in all terms for a girl. So, I will definitely put KENDRICK as my First Choice.
Kendrick is also doing well in terms of "OxBridge" admissions.

All the topics you mentioned that your DD likes are also better available at Kendrick.
It may be better to visit both the school/check website and talk to your DD asap to finalise.

Good luck to you and your DD.

Actually Kendrick seems quite laid back. The girls all mostly behave themselves so there's no need for strict discipline really, as for the rest you could be talking about my DD.

I would opt for SWBGS - it's mixed (I preferred that myself when at school) and Oxbridge isn't everything.

Don't just look at League tables as Bucks GS are less selective (top 30%) and other students from Uppers join in the sixthform.

Only downside of SWBGS is the lack of parking ...

Ds's fave way to spend my money is on Radnor Peach - which is apparently a fizzy peach drink - I fear it does not involve freshly pressed peaches and sparkling spring water

Borlase also has chocolate muffins, flap jacks, paninis, curry Thursday and fish Friday - Infact ds daily discovers new ways to spend my money

Oh and don't forget it has a canteen AND Mimi's coffee shop!

Oh and Marlow has a Mint Velvet, Sweaty Betty and Whistles to name but I few but maybe I should shush for fear of revealing too much of my spending habits!
