Reading English exam

Post by snowy »

Does anyone know what type of question is set for the short written test at Reading Grammar, that forms part of the English test? I have asked the school and they say that entrants are asked to "inform, explain or describe" something in about 15mins and they are expected to write two paragraphs. Anyone who knows of any specific titles that have been set in recent years would be a great help.

Last year was along the lines of "Write about an electrical appliance that might be found in a museum in the year 2300?"

Hope that helps. The key is to read carefully and answer the question demonstrating good use of English. Not sure I would score highly. :D :D

My son is in Yr 8, and his question was "A place that inspires you".

Beware, they have to write with a pencil that is provided, a bit of a shock if, like my son, your writing is improved with a fountain pen or decent biro!
