Yes you are right there. For 2015 entry, the actual rank of the last boy getting the 112th seat on 2nd March allocation was around 230th.

With 138 PAN for 2016 entry, we can guess around 280th ranker to get a place

Hi,
Does anyone know how many boys were offered a place last year that did not take it up?
Thanks!

As Indiemom has stated places were offered down to about 230th last year, so a fair number have turns down seats (or were ooc if the ranking includes them too).

The number this time is likely to be different as there are more places.

Hello

Is there a different test for day pupils and those who want to board, or do they sit the same exam ?

Thanks

Trying to make sense of the data:

- does it mean that OOC candidates are almost totally irrelevant because there are enough IC candidates with cut-off grade?
- does it therefore imply that the headline difficulty to get in is overstated? i.e. it's not 138 out of 1,421 that get admitted (less than 10%) but a much higher percentage?
- also does it mean that if a DC has the level to hit the qualifying score, he is effectively competing vs 188 other kids (based on 2015 test) for 138 places (assuming they all accept and don't go comp or ind)
- if out of the top 250 kids, 120 are OOC (implying 130 IC and hence admitted), does it therefore mean one needs to aim (using 2015 tests) for c 113?

I don't think anyone ooc has ever got a day place at Reading school, there are too many IC boys who qualify. They rank lower than those in catchment as a result.

Bear in mind that out of those applying for the test, a significant number will have sat at one of the Slough schools with the intention of looking at those but shared their score with Reading simply because it was just a matter of ticking a box. If it had been separate tests they may not have bothered in the past. So yes, in effective the real number is effectively lower.

In the last couple of years the cutoff has been about 113 (as I've reported above). This includes just boys in catchment. However this can and does change from year to year depending on how many apply.

Not sure if that answers your questions.
