There is a lot to be said for going to a local school in terms of friends, socialising and less driving. Having said that, I knew someone who commuted from near Ashford to Burnham Grammar for 7 years, and was perfectly happy. Mind you, her poor mother drove her every day for 7 years which is quite a commitment.
Hi Scary Mum
Thanks so much. I would have gone to the local schools but the one closest to me makes Grange Hill look attractive. One of the best schools from both parents point of view and ofsted is local but is only open to RC. There are no other options.
I have an older son with ASD who the council consider too high functioning to need an EHCP so he is attending a school in Datchet. Its a complete nightmare. He's happy there but the range of subjects is very restrictive.
I would prefer my 9 year old was in a local school for the social side of things. But.....
They dont tell you this in the parenting books do they LOL

Thank you Toadmum, I didnt know the local authority would show grammar schools too - off to lookToadMum wrote:If you look on your local authority's website, you will be able to see secondary schools in your area and their admissions criteria.

They won't show grammars if there are none locally. It will likely show only those on the LA and a few that are close by in bordering areas.

Tinkers is quite right, there would be no reason for your LA to provide details of schools in other areas, except perhaps a list of those schools which are very near the border and which DC from your area are able to attend on grounds of proximity, religion etc.Tinkers wrote:They won't show grammars if there are none locally. Your local authority will have made the decision decades ago to become fully comprehensive, so presumably you chose the area for reasons other than wanting one of your DC to attend a grammar school?

We moved here twenty years ago when we didnt have children and bought a house. I went back to Ireland and returned three months ago. I had planned on living in Ireland forever so the issue of schools didn't come into it. Our situation changed and here I am.ToadMum wrote:mom23 wrote:Thank you Toadmum, I didnt know the local authority would show grammar schools too - off to lookToadMum wrote:If you look on your local authority's website, you will be able to see secondary schools in your area and their admissions criteria.Tinkers is quite right, there would be no reason for your LA to provide details of schools in other areas, except perhaps a list of those schools which are very near the border and which DC from your area are able to attend on grounds of proximity, religion etc.Tinkers wrote:They won't show grammars if there are none locally.
