Re: Back up Seondary schools in Taplow/Burnam area
Reading is also 4 on the CAF like Wokingham.
I think WBC are being a bit disingenuous there by saying you can move in when you like.
See this especially page 2.

Though tbh it will be the finding of a primary place that is going to a bigger issue. The primaries around Earley/Lower Earley are in high demand.

Re: Back up Seondary schools in Taplow/Burnam area
OP you have a few options:
1. In catchment of Bucks school, Kendrick and good comprehensives then Maidenhead is your choice. I have heard Newlands girls comprehensive is a good school (slightly better/similar to Holt and ME). Plus if you live near Newlands (Western side of Maidenhead) you will be within 3 miles for Sir William Borlase, one of the best Bucks school. You will also be at a good distance for Burnham Grammar and one Bucks(girls) school. Can't remember the name right now but I will post when I remember it. When my DD used to travel from Maidenhead to Kendrick she said Maidenhead girls formed the biggest group in Kendrick.
Maidenhead housing is expensive though. More than Reading, Earley and Wokingham
2. Good comprehensive + Kendrick, then East Reading, Lower Early and Wokingham areas are good. Ditto to everything Tinkers has mentioned.
Bear in mind though that the train line on the Reading, Wokingham, London route is slow. Maidenhead brach has faster service and more frequency.
3. Twyford is also an option if you need to be on the faster train line. Twyford has a good comprehensive and also in catchment for Kendrick. But Twyford will be further away from Bucks schools.
4. If you are targeting Langley grammar then they have an inner catchment.
5. Getting into Kendrick is harder than getting into Bucks schools. Exams/passing marks are different.
Of course you may have other DCs, work to travel to and other housing constraints. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Re: Back up Seondary schools in Taplow/Burnam area
Looks like Reading is on Location, Location, Location tonight covering Caversham and elsewhere. I wonder what they will say about schools
Re: Back up Seondary schools in Taplow/Burnam area
I wonder if they’ll mention the recent allocation issues with Highdown and Chiltern Edge being taken over after being put into special measures and threatened with closures. And that their DCs might actually end up at JMA instead.Reading Mum wrote:Looks like Reading is on Location, Location, Location tonight covering Caversham and elsewhere. If anyone is watching it please let me know.

mgm3 wrote:Thanks. But what I heard from the people /friends here ( from Basingstoke) is that of all the above schools, anotherdad wrote:I can help there:mgm3 wrote:Well not sure of the ratings though.
Vyne Community School - Good
Brighton Hill Community School - Good
Bishop Challoner Catholic Secondary School - Good
The Costello School - Good
All of these are in Basingstoke.
Bishop Challoner Catholic school is better amongst the listed. And I cannot get a seat there as I'm not catholic.
Fellow Basingstoke area person here (though I actually live in a village outside the town). Both of my children have managed to get places in bishop challoner catholic school and we aren’t catholic either. My middle son currently goes to a primary that is a faith school (c of e) and the vicar of the school wrote a letter and we filled in the Faith form. My son is currently #1 on the waiting list for Reading school, but if he doesn’t get that he’s going to Bc. My eldest went down the same route and was also offered a place at that school. Also, don’t forget Robert Mays depending on where you are that’s an option.

Thanks Tinkers. Bit busy with Financial year-end activities so just got a chance to look into your reply.Tinkers wrote:Reading is also 4 on the CAF like Wokingham.

Even I though so about the WBC response over phone.
From the document I could see that the address provided by 31Oct17 ( but for next year entry I think that would be 31Oct18 ?) .
However I’m bit confused with the following section in page 2. Does that mean one can move to a new house until 15Jan2019 ( for this year) to be considered for 1st round of allocations? Please let me know
If an applicant is moving house and wishes to use the new address for the allocation of places, evidence will be required that the parent and child have moved and are living in the new home by 15 January 2018. If the move takes place later or information is provided later, the school will only be able to treat the new address for waiting list purposes and consider this information after the initial allocation of places has taken place.
Also by any chance would you have 2019 admission policy?
Regarding the primary school places, shouldn't they offer any of the nearby schools, if we move there?

hi erks_mum, thank you for the information on bucks. I shall go through the details and shall check with you for further information in this regard.berks_mum wrote:OP you have a few options:

ALso another advantage I believe is that one can put 6 schools in CAF from Bucks?
Right now I'm trying to go through different options in Berks/Bucks, before I can take a final decision.Fingers crossed!!
Re: Back up Seondary schools in Taplow/Burnam area
A lot of the local primary schools will be full, so no they don’t have to offer you a ‘local’ primary school. If there’s a space then obviously they will offer it to you, just don’t expect there to be spaces straight away.
Re: Back up Seondary schools in Taplow/Burnam area
Maidenhead used to give 6 options on in CAF. But, double check RBWM website to make sure if it is still the case.mgm3 wrote:hi erks_mum, thank you for the information on bucks. One more thing you can do - live/rent in Maidenhead till your DC's grammar school results come out/allocation happens then move nearer to the school they get into. Check the catchment requirement though. Bucks schools expect you to be in catchment before the result is out. But it is doable. People have done it.
Feel free to PM if you need anything further.
Re: Back up Seondary schools in Taplow/Burnam area
RBWM are definitely 6 options on the CAF.
Best of luck
