Can I ask a question to be re-assured I have understood the exam correctly ? Is it correct that the English exam is a 50 minute multiple choice paper and there is no composition paper at all ?

Also, please could somebody recommend some Y5 standard work (a publisher hopefully) I could do with my son over the Christmas holidays to help him learn how to handle multiple choice comprehension papers. I haven't seen anything from school to support this (yet anyway).I don't want to knock his confidence with anything too hard at this point, I would really appreciate guidance on what to start with and where to move onto later.
Thank you very much
Terri

Yes, we believe they have done away with the written test, and only have the multiple choice test now. As to how long it will be, not sure I'm afraid, approx 1hour.

English material is a bit thin on the ground. This site sells some equivalent papers and also books, that would be worth taking a look at.

Good Luck

Hi Terri,

Do not know of any age related English multiple choice, I am using Bond English books not multi-choice for DS2 in year 4, they are age graded and short comprehensions which is similar to previous Reading tests.

Also used the epapers Tuition For You from this site, again not multi-choice. Hard to find anything comparable to Reading which DS reported two years ago was sixty five questions in fifty minutes, not hard just a lot of it. Bit like his homework in year 8.

Good luck for 2009, eek then it's our turn again in 2010.

Hopefully we will have some feedback on the 2008 exam in ten days time  . Usual forum rules, best not to publish detailed information until late sitters have finished.
