Just received the offer of admission from Langley:
Langley Grammar School has been heavily oversubscribed for the September 2009 entry and the initial offer of places has been made to all candidates achieving an average score of 117 and above.
So this is official now. Huge dip from last years first round cut-off of 120.

Hi
I believe herschels first round offers is 115.
If Langley is oversubscribed and will not be offering to under 117 will they be automatically be able to apply to Herschel under the new ruling?
can someone enlighten me please :?

Hi Angelic,

If someone has put Langley as first preference and Herschel as second preference and they have scored ...say....116. They should be offered Herschel in the first round.
I am unsure whether ( if they still want to be considered for Langley) they need to make sure they are on the waiting list at Langley... or.... they will be offered automatically once Langley gets down to 116.

Someone I know put down Langley as 1st choice and Herschel as 2nd. The child scored 115 and has not been offered a place by Herschel yet. Are these schools up to their old tricks again? Do the parents have to put their child's name on waiting list for both these schools or will it be done by the schools without their asking for it?

I wouldn't leave anything as important to chance, Drasticdad. I'd advise them to contact the schools and/or LEA to find out the exact position.

It may be that not 'all' 115's were offered in the first round at Herschel..... it should depend on distance if the cut off was somewhere in the 115.

But..... I would also ring the school (Herschel) and ask where the child was on their waiting list... just to be certain

Hi Drastic dad I think that people who's child has scored the pass mark for Herschel (1st round offers) should check like chad said with the school and LEA. It maybe 2nd allocations go to who put Herschel first, although this should not be the case this year due to the new rulings!
I know people with scores of 113 being on 2nd allocations at no 29. Though it seems a good number it depending if offers are being declined. Chad is this a good position for 2nd rounds? is Herschel very oversubscribed this year? :?
