Usually, Solihull parents receive their results first by email, often before midnight.
This begins to give us an idea of what the scores-in have been, when those parents share results/allocations with us.

Birmingham LA is massive in comparison (Solihull has about 60 primary schools (many are pretty small) and Bham about 400 (and some of those schools are 9-form entry!)- the results are sent out in batches which had in the past arrived any time between the early hours of the morning on 1 March, and late in the afternoon on 1 March.
The foundation usually also update their website by this point to clarify 'last scores-in' that year.

A day or so later, the paper letter and forms usually arrive by post and there is often (not always) a letter from the allocated school, too.

You have until 16th March to confirm your school place. Usually this means posting or delivering the form directly to the school.
You will still be on the waiting list for any schools ranked higher. Accepting a school will not affect the outcome of an appeal. Parents should accept a school by 16 March if they want a state school, or they could risk having no allocation.

In terms of waiting list movement, parents often are able to find out where they stand on the KEVI Grammar school lists on 1 March, but it's more difficult to get that info for BV/Sutton Girls until after 16 March.

I can't see why you'd need to take time off work to sort anything tbh.

I just don't want him to feel isolated, and lonely.
Are you absolutely sure you couldn’t get him to HGS or BV? The latter is well served by the train and HGS is on/near lots of bus routes. They do grow up very quickly in year 7 and it amazing what they can manage!

I wouldn’t worry too much about the local friends aspect. Boys tend to socialise on the Xbox/PS4 anyway!! Also, my daughter meets up in town with friends quite regularly - they all come in by bus or train. And with the homework load and longer school day, they don’t socialise in the week anyway. It’s very different from primary school. My daughter has stayed really good friends with her primary school best friend though, despite us moving across the Midlands. They chat online regularly, have meet ups in town and sleepovers in the holidays
Thank you so much, youre right actually, there will be so much homework. He could probably do it while he is waiting for his Dad. And he does play xbox, and already I can see differences in his friendships, I think i'm more worried about it than he is. Its such an opportunity that I dont really want to say no. When he's older he could probably do the journey by train and bus.

Thank you everyone for your input and support.

I think the deadline to accept a school place in Warwickshire for 2018 is March 9th not March 16th. I would advise that if you accept the place online, take a screenshot of the acceptance just in case!

That's useful to know - but it gives Warks parents less time to think!

I cannot find any acceptance date online with Warks admissions, but they have said that 19th March is the date when 'reallocation commences'.

Yes - definitely agree that parents should screenshot any online acceptance, and get a receipt for any acceptance in person.

Thanks um. Much appreciate your detailed response. Is online acceptance only possible with Warwickshire grammar schools?
Does Birmingham / Solihull also require parents to accept online apart from sending across all the paperwork by post / in person?

Also KEA is on the same train route as BV, so could that also be an option? Appreciate you have already submitted your preferences, but I know from experience that W/L move both ways, so people must change their minds about their choices.

What about OSH? Would the fees be comparable with KES scholarship? He'd also stay local then...

They weren't originally but after assessment they are. He is on list but is it as good a school?
