Hello all, my son is planning to sit the 11+ this November. Can anyone share some information as to what this years exam (2006) was like, what came up on the test, what to expect and son on. Any help would be appreciated, as I understand there are no past papers that KEG schools publish.

Hi

My daughter sat exam this year. I have posted her comments on other strings, but would be loath to say more until I know whether she has been successful. This is not that I want to hide information, but feel that I will have a better idea of what her opinion is worth once I know whether or not she has a place.

Ask again in March!!

Generally speaking though, I would expect the unexpected. Don't rely on anything being in the same format as any previous year.

Get your son used to doing things under timed conditions. I would extend this not just to Nfer/Bond papers, but also to school homework, tidying his room (not every time perhaps!) just in order to give him an appreciation of the value of time.

The other important thing is to have a go. If he doesn't know the answer, have a guess. The guess might be right, but a blank answer never is.

The test for the King Edward's Schools is very difficult. I sat the test a while ago and did pass but it is very hard. Unexpected questions like geography came up and it was very different to the practice papers available in the shops.

It's interesting to hear you say that Alicia.

My daughter would have taken exactly the same test as you (looking at your other posts) - and she made similar comments about the unexpected geography stuff.

I've been preparing my son for KEG tests this year and when I quized a couple of KEG heads they were completely disbelieving that any such type of question could have been on the paper.

I've heard no similar comments about subsequent tests though.

reckon the confusion may be coming from the

KES/KEHS schools which are independent now but if my memory serves me correctly set an exam like no other 36 years ago....

and the KEG schools which are state grammars - and may just not have such questions in their tests!
