KEF does not allow extra time. They are ready to give other concessions for example - children with Autism are allowed to take the exam in a separate room or in a smaller size room. They let us visit the exam room prior to the exam to check if ds spotted anything that is likely to distract him. Like sitting closer to a window or a computer. And they also played the same player (not the same CD) to check if ds can hear clearly from where he was likely to sit on the exam day.

The problem with KEF is that the group which decide on special need provision meet only once a year well before the exam and they would base their decision depending on the documentation provided. Once they have made the decision, it would be hard (read impossible) to appeal and reverse the decision.

It is always best to have a plan B and be explicitly clear as to what you want and what you don't want. In our case ds didn't want to write in a separate room, but that was the decision made by KEF based on the supporting evidence we provided. At the end after several phone calls and meetings, ds was allowed to write the test in a room with 25 other children.

Warks would give extra time normally 5 mins, but not more than 10 mins overall (not for each section) provided the supporting evidence is accepted. They would check with the school as part of their decision making process. A letter from school would certainly help.

Good luck!!!
