Missed B'ham Exam Deadline

Post by krisi »

Hi Can anybody give me any advice on missed deadlines for the Birmingham Sutton Exam. I sent the application form by post before the 12th July and by the 16th July I thought it was odd that I had not gotten a reply with a date for the exam sitting. When I called the school they informed me that my daughters name was not down for the exam as they had not received the application form.

I know this is my own stupidity for not sending this recorded delivery as I did with the Queen Mary's application form but I was wondering has anyone out there came across or had the same experience and it there anything I can do about it?????????

Not looking too hopeful if it really has gone missing :(

Entry requirements
Optional tests for the admission of pupils to any of The Grammar Schools in Birmingham will take place on Saturday 7 September 2013. If you wish your child to be entered for the selective test for one of the above schools then you should complete and return the Request for Optional Test form by 16:00 hours (4pm) on 12 July 2013 at the latest. You must attach a passport sized photograph of your child to your form for identification purposes.

Please note that if your form has not been received by Friday 12 July 2013, for whatever reason, your child will not be permitted to take the tests.

Optional Test forms and an explanatory brochure will be available from May 2013 from The Grammar Schools in Birmingham (Tel: 0121 415 6004) and the individual grammar schools. You can also visit the website at http://www.kingedwardthesixth.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Application forms should be returned to: The Grammar Schools in Birmingham, Edgbaston Park Road, Birmingham, B15 2UD

All Optional Test forms received will be acknowledged within fourteen days. Candidates will then be informed of their allocated test centre and the time at which they should attend to take the selective test.

If you do not receive an acknowledgement, or if you post your application form less than fourteen days before the closing date, you should contact the Grammar Schools in Birmingham before the closing date to confirm that your form has been received.
Supplementary tests will be held later in September 2013 for those who provide proof of illness on the day of the original test (a medical certificate or doctor’s letter) or proof they cannot sit the test on that day on religious grounds (a letter from their religious leader).

Closing date for receipt of test registration forms Friday 12th July 2013 at 4pm
All registration forms will be acknowledged in writing within 14 working days of receipt.
If forms are sent within 14 days of closing date it is advisable to hand deliver or post them by recorded delivery.

Applications received after this date cannot be accepted and children will not be able to take the test.

You could try contacting the foundation office - http://www.kingedwardsfoundation.co.uk/contact.htm or http://www.kingedwardthesixth.org/contactff.php - to check if it has turned up since, or whether they've received it and it was just the school who weren't aware of it.

No there's nothing you can do I'm afraid :-(. They don't even accept a day late.

So sorry that you cannot enter your daughter now. Unfortunately these schools have so many applicants, they can be quite strict over entry requirements. I hope that she gets into a good school anyway, or try for Year 9, if they accept entries?

I am sorry, it doesn't look good I'm afraid.

On the other hand, if you were considering KES/KEHS, you could use this as an opportunity to not bother wasting your time on nvr and synonyms and work towards the independent school exams in January from now.

There are some bursary places available at these schools if they are outside of your financial means- although it is very competitive to obtain them.

Best of luck to your DC with the QM exam results.
