From KES website:

Boys at King Edward's School are celebrating after achieving the school's best ever GCSE results.

Boys have broken school records with the highest ever percentage of A* grades at 67% (a 10% increase on 2012 and 6% on the previous 2008 record), 89% A*-A and 97% of entries resulted in A*-B grades. Out of a year group of 126, 24 boys achieved 10 A*s and a further 19 boys obtained 9 A*s.

John Claughton, Chief Master, said: "These results represent a big leap forward for us and are very exciting for the boys and the school. It's not only the stars that count: the average boy in this year has got 8A*s, 1 A and 1 B grade. We always thought that this was a special group of boys but it is always nice when they get the results they deserve. And these boys are also very active in any number of ways in school life with music, drama, sport and expeditions: for example, this year's hockey team reached the national finals.

"This has been an outstanding year for the school in academic terms with our second set of outstanding IB results and over 20 boys into Oxford and Cambridge. With almost all of our GCSEs being IGCSEs and with no A-Levels here, we have committed ourselves to an independent and rigorous education and we think that is paying dividends for us."

We need to know the progress; what % had level 5s on entry? Otherwise these tables tell you nothing about how well your child will do.

Is it my assumption that from the figures, a free education and paid one leads to the same results barring the extra curricular activities?

EHS:

Following last week's A Level news, this week we have further cause for celebration as we announce our GCSE Results. We were delighted to achieve the following results:
Overall pass rate 98.6%
A* grades 38%
A* and A grades 70.5%
A*/A/B grades 92%
8% of the cohort gained all A* grades and 33% all A and A* grades.
We had some stunning individual performances with 3 girls achieving 12 A* grades: our congratulations go to RM, HP and NS, and a further 3 girls achieving 11A* grades: EB, GK and RT.
In addition to their GCSE examinations 18 girls passed OCR Thinking and Reasoning Skills gaining 12 Distinctions and 6 Merits.
SK also achieved a grade A in AS IT in addition to her 11 GCSEs at A* and A.

I think Guest55 makes a valid point re usefulness of these figures.
