DS1 was 5c in maths and reading and 4a in writing at the end of year 5, he was 5b and 5c end of Year 6 : he missed a KE place by a couple of points but qualified for HGS. DS2 was 5b/a in Year 5 and level 6 in both English and maths in Year 6. He made the KEGS with a good score and a scholarship at KES.

Our school sent around 12 kids to grammars and all were level 5 AFAIK. However, I have heard of 2 kids from somewhere else who passed with 4a but they were very bright and at a rubbish school. I would say good SATs are a positive indicator but are not a garuntee. With NVR counting 25% and another 25% that is really just vocabulary there are things outside the NC to consider. With DS1 he had a high score for the English/VR but the nvr/maths score was low: he was good at maths and could do NVR under normal practice paper timings but not KE timings.
