Adams Grammar vs Thomas Telford

Post by FunkyMonkey »

It's a long way off to decision time, and quite frankly, a bit hypothetical, but if in a position to choose, how would you all compare these two schools? E.g. sports, extra curricula, education, culture, enabling potential, etc.

Which has more prestige? I know a silly thing to compare on but all other things being equal, it could be a clincher for a university or work placement.

Thomas Telford - Excellent sport facilities whether its football. cricket etc. On academia- its very intense (as expected)
Boys and girls
Adams - I understand the boys play rugby amongst other sport. traditional grammar ,Very academic (as expected)
Boys all together. sixth form is co -ed

The other thing you have to bear in mind the head at TT does things differently, ie rather than one hour lessons, pupils have lessons that last three hours?
TT also seems to be a longer day and early start 8.15 am and finish 4.00pm.
Adams I believe have had major refurbishments sports hall science labs etc

Hope this helps
xx

Coincidentally, my last question is touched upon in a different thread.

Thanks for info on this one.

Transport? Free coach to TT compared to @ £900 a year to Adams may swing it for some (depending on where you live of course)

Suspect they may have quite different atmospheres - only the sort of thing that you can pick up during a visit - you may find you (and DS) may just like one more than the other when you see them

If you are lucky enough to get a seat on the school bus. If not is it a very expensive daily drop off and pick up of over £20 per day petrol from Wolverhampton.

Adams, there were approximately 20 children last year who did not get a seat on the bus from Wolves to Adams.

I was watching this thread with interest as these 2 schools will be my choices. Thomas Telford admission procedure seems so hit and miss and found out today that at my boys primary there has only ever been one child each year from their school who has been offered a place there (I have twins). I don't know how true it is that although they pick from bands the head also has his own criteria.

That's what it says in their admissions policy so I think you can assume it's true.
