Re: Travel from Bromsgrove to BV
If the train towards Birmingham isn't running there will be scores of boys in the same emergency, surely.
The school is presumably open until early evening as there'll be clubs etc taking place.

Re: Travel from Bromsgrove to BV
My son catches the train into New Street and then to University every day and is now in Year 9 - in the last year there has been maybe 3/4 times at the most when the trains have been cancelled. He has had to get the metro into Bhm a few times and then walk from Snow Hill to New Street which he was apprehensive about but there are so many other people in the same situation.
There will always be older kids that you can ask and they will guide you.
I agree with UM i definitely prefer the train option that the bus.
Its nerve wracking at first but the DC soon get used to it and so do the parents.

I appreciate all your comments, thank you. I wish I had discovered this forum sooner.
Re: Travel from Bromsgrove to BV
I have been advised that Barnt Green station may be an option. The advantage being that it's one straight run and no changes. I had always assumed this was a remote station and so not very keen especially in darker months. Has anyone used this station and have any thoughts?
Re: Travel from Bromsgrove to BV
I know a lot of UoB and QEH staff use it. Probably slightly after the school kids but I'd have thought it was quite busy. If you're doing a trial run can you go from there at the same time your ds would leave?
Re: Travel from Bromsgrove to BV
Don't forget that from July 2016 onwards (following electrification of the bromsgrove to Barnt Green section and the new bromsgrove station) there will be 1 through electric train per hour from bromsgrove
Re: Travel from Bromsgrove to BV
Meaning less trains per hour or an extra train in addition to current timetable?
Muminbrum: good idea, will do a trial run both routes.

It will go from 3 to 4 trains per hour, 3 to Redditch 1 to Bromsgrovebilbo wrote:Meaning less trains per hour or an extra train in addition to current timetable?

http://barntgreen.org.uk/latest-news-fr ... uary-2015/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; These improvements will lead to an improvement to the local rail service, meaning by the end of 2016 Bromsgrove will see four trains per hour in each direction compared to the current one: and at the same time Barnt Green will go from the recently-increased 3 trains per hour also to 4 trains per hour. At least one train each way per hour will connect Barnt Green with Bromsgrove, compared to the solely ‘school hours’ trains we see today.
Re: Travel from Bromsgrove to BV
My understanding is that the plan after electrification was for the cross-city trains which currently terminate at Longbridge to run instead to Bromsgrove, so that of the 6 cross-city trains per hour 3 would run to/from Redditch, and 3 to/from Bromsgrove. Quite how those are to be divided between the various northern destinations (currently 2 as far as Four Oaks, 2 to Lichfield City and 2 to Lichfield TV) I'm not entirely clear, but it doesn't matter for this purpose.KenR wrote:Don't forget that from July 2016 onwards (following electrification of the bromsgrove to Barnt Green section and the new bromsgrove station) there will be 1 through electric train per hour from bromsgrove
So, after summer 2016 there should (all being well) be 3 trains per hour direct from Bromsgrove to Sutton Coldfield, in addition to the other options suggested.
Re: Travel from Bromsgrove to BV
Thank you for your responses you've been so helpful. Direct train from Bromsgrove to Sutton Coldfield is just what we need , if all goes to plan.
